There are heaps of techniques you can use to bring a fine-art look to your photographs, some of which have been around since the very early days of digital photo editing. And I sometimes like to revisit those older techniques and see if they can’t be enhanced using the capabilities of today’s photo editing software.
One such technique is this motion blur style effect which first came about in 2014 when Adobe added the blur gallery to Photoshop and photographers began putting those blurs to creative effect in their work.
It’s been a few years since I last tried this effect and since that time Adobe have of course added various AI tools to Photoshop including subject selection, which make this technique much easier and faster to recreate.
I’m going to do a full tutorial on how to realise this effect, but I should stress that it is a Photoshop-only effect, not possible with the current feature-set in something like Affinity Photo. I’ll share the video this weekend and a written tutorial here on my Substack for paid subscribers, in the mean-time here are some more examples.
