If you live inland and only occasionally get to photograph at the coast, then the unique challenges of the environment can lead to frustrations and you might be dissatisfied with the photographs you come away with. As someone who moved from an urban environment to a coastal one, I’ve slowly adapted my techniques and now know how to get the best out of these locations, but it took me some time.
So if you live in a town or city a long way from the nearest stretch of coastline, I’d like to share some tips with you, so that you can get the most out of any landscape shoots when you do manage to get out to the coast. It took 20 years for this Londoner to feel at home on the Australian coastline - hopefully it’ll be a bit faster for you!
